One Brick (www.onebrick.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides support to other local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. This enables people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments. When we finish each volunteer project, we gather as a group at a local bar or restaurant for food, drinks and the opportunity to continue to get to know each other. This helps to create a really fun social outlet as part of your volunteer experience. Here's a little more information about the upcoming event: About Transportation Alternatives: T.A. seeks to change New York City's transportation priorities to encourage and increase non-polluting, quiet, city-friendly travel and decrease--not ban--private car use. We seek a rational transportation system based on a "Green Transportation Hierarchy," which gives preference to modes of travel based on their benefits and costs to society. To achieve our goals, T.A. works in five areas: Bicycling, Walking and Traffic Calming, Car-Free Parks, Safe Streets and Sensible Transportation. T.A. is hosting the 18th annual NYC Century. This ride draws over 5,000 cyclists a year. Of course most still come from NYC but many come from Texas , California , Maryland and as far away as Germany , the UK and Mexico . And many return year after year. NYC Century Bike Tour is unlike other rides. The NYC Century works as a means to show riders how they can connect to different neighborhoods and boroughs of the city safely. To illustrate cyclists’ rights to the streets, there will be no street closings, cyclist ride with traffic along New York City Streets and must obey all traffic laws Other Event Info: Please look for the event manager at the volunteer check in table. Volunteers will be registering riders, handing out bibs, working the start line and helping people get going. Flexibility is crucial.
This event happens in other locations too, BUT please note that you are RSVPing for 'Start crew'.
'Start crew' volunteers can ride for FREE!
Please note that there will be other volunteers (those who did NOT RSVP through One Brick). So, please look for your event manager before volunteering. Thanks.
